Overview
The London Orthotic Consultancy (LOC) provides orthotic treatments in 3 main areas at the Litfield Medical Centre; – Chest Deformities (Pectus Carinatum/Pectus Excavatum and flared ribs) – Positional Plagiocephaly (also known as Flat Head Syndrome) – Feet and Footwear(bespoke insoles and orthopaedic/diabetic footwear).
The clinics are run by Saeed Hamid, Dip OPTEC MBAPO and Sam Walmsley, BSc (Hons) MBAPO; they are two of the original founders of LOC. Both are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Pectus Clinic
LOC has pioneered the non-surgical treatment of chest deformities in the UK. Pectus Carinatum can be treated with a bespoke chest brace while Pectus Excavatum is treated with the vacuum bell. Both treatments are combined with specific exercises to optimise outcomes.
Positional Plagiocephaly Clinic
Positional Plagiocephaly, also known as ‘Flat head Syndrome’ is a condition characterised by a flattening on one side of the back of a baby’s head. It may also involve bulging of the forehead, fullness of the cheek and ear misalignment. Re-positioning and ‘tummy time’ can result in natural correction of the condition.
If there is no noticeable improvement, helmet remoulding therapy is a treatment option. LOC has a vast amount of experience of treating babies with the LOCband which is non-invasive and works by applying a gentle constant pressure over the areas of a baby’s skull that are most prominent while allowing unrestricted growth over the flattened areas. Treatment is most effective in babies aged between 4-7 months.
Foot and Footwear Clinic
Foot Orthotics help stabilise and correct poor foot posture. LOC specialises in the manufacture of precision, custom-made insoles. LOC is able to provide a complete range of footwear, from simple, extra volume high street styled shoes, to complex, bespoke orthopaedic and diabetic footwear.
