Acupuncture has become increasingly popular during the past few years and has been accepted by “conventional” medicine (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has guidelines promoting acupuncture as first-line treatment for a number of conditions).
The Portland Centre for Integrative Medicine has recently joined Litfield House offering Acupuncture with Dr Georgina Jefferies.
Dr Georgina Jefferies M.B.B.S.; F.F.A.R.C.S is a recently retired consultant anaesthetist and pain specialist and member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS), regularly treats patients for a wide range of painful conditions and is used to treat musculoskeletal pain the neck, back, shoulder and leg. Acupuncture can also be used for treatment of headache, migraine, muscle strains and arthritic pain. It may also be useful in the treatment of:
- Bowel or bladder problems such as IBS or irritable bladder
- Menopausal symptoms and menstrual problems such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Excessive nausea and vomiting or early pregnancy (hyperemesis)
- Hay fever and some allergic rashes
- Sinus problems and chronic catarrh
